M1: March 11, 2021: The Short Order Cook That Never Wanted To Be
Once there was this short order cook that never wanted to be. Her days were filled with dreaming of everything else in the world she wanted to do, but couldn’t because cooking took up all of her time…
She started on this road as a little girl. As soon as she could reach the sink by standing on a chair, she was trained as a dishwasher… this was about 6 years old…
As time went on and she grew, her duties expanded… by 8 she was mixing… 10, staging the table… 12, she was chopping… 14, shopping… and by 16, she had her own place…
…nothing glamorous, nothing that made any money… just enough to get by… but she never stopped dreaming because she wanted nothing more than to never cook again.
While she diced, she dreamt of far away places she would visit… while mixing, of books she would read… while kneading, of what it must be like to look out an airplane window or ride on a boat, or train… while baking, of foods she didn’t have to cook… every action in the kitchen she took became a time to dream…
concerts, walks in parks, museums, libraries, hikes and beaches…
…every recipe became a magical adventure. And over time, her cooking became exquisitely yummy, colorful and one of a kind… each dish infused with her dreams.
And when the time came to hang up her spatula, she knew she had lived a full life because her dreams were full, fuller than reality… and she found herself grateful that she had never wanted to cook.
