February 1, 2021: Good morning! First day should have been easy, right?!?!? Pick a piece of junk mail and move on…. But reality took hold… or shall I say the “over thinker” in me…
It decided the “easy things” I had planned cleared clutter, but felt like copping out. With much consternation and digging in many drawers for many hours, FINALLY, chose something which also cleared clutter in my spirit… fear!
an old dried up hair brush with a strong wood paddle…. so how is this “fear” you ask?
I’ve always wanted to upscale a worn out item to create something bespoke that actually looked artisan and desirable…. so far an elusive experience… which has left a long string of what my friend Rose describes as “being made with so much love.”
Nonetheless, the muse whisped through again and a beautiful hand held mirror came to mind. (Right?!?!? I know….)
Facing my fear, Leatherman in hand, I spent the afternoon carefully removing each and every bristle along with the dried rubber which held them in place.
Carefully measuring the space ~ approximately 4.5″ x 1 7/8″ ~ called the hardware store only to discover it’s too small a size for them to cut.
My “over thinker” thought hey … cut a piece yourself…. Hahahahaha…. we can do this! (I can just hear the sirens on the way to ER now!) Then, it suggested locker mirrors and breaking off the frames. Then, busting open compacts… (the sirens are getting louder!) It even went so far as to suggest gluing in a whole bunch of quarter size mirrors! Noting I already have plenty of glue! LOL
Luckily, I discovered a mirror and glass store resides in the next town. Plans to call the store on Thursday gave my “over thinker ” a chance to rest. Fingers crossed… this project will come to fruition and be grand!
Will keep you posted on this subplot. In the meantime, success on Day 1, bristles and bits removed and placed in the bin. See you tomorrow!
